Nike Worked with Designers Including Marine Serre and Yoon Ahn to Create Lifestyle Pieces Inspired by the Women’s World Cup

Ahead of the 2019 Women’s World Cup, which begins on June 7, Nike has announced a brand new line inspired by the global event. Unveiling the news with British Vogue, the brand revealed its teaming up with designers Yoon Ahn, Christelle Kocher, Erin Magee, and Marine Serre to create a collection of pieces that can be worn on and off the field.

Inspired by those participating in this year’s World Cup, the pieces include jerseys, which Rosemary St. Clair, VP and GM of Nike Women, told Vogue contains special messages of encouragement. Each designer has sewed in “individual messages of positivity,” including a note from Ahn that reads, “Make each game your masterpiece.”

Speaking with British Vogue, St. Clair shared what the launch means to Nike, saying, “We believe in the power of sport to move the world forward, break down barriers, bring people together, and inspire action.”

Prior to this collaboration with Nike, the individual designers have become noted in the world of fashion for their individual approaches to style. Ahn has become a streetwear style to the stars with her line Ambush and she was named the head designer for DIOR jewelry in April 2018; Kocher, who founded Koché, creates streetwear with couture influence; Magee founded MadeMe, a streetwear line with a mission of empowering its buyers and inspiring women; and Serre launched her collection in 2017, which has become known for combining elements of ready-to-wear with athletic wear, resulting in pieces seemingly pulled from a distant future.

Of her involvement in the collection, Kocher said, “I want the girls who wear these pieces to feel powerful and confident. Sports and fashion can have the same magic power: to make people feel stronger. I hope these pieces will help women to perform and have fun on playgrounds and in life.”

Additionally, Magee said, “This is the first time MadeMe has ever designed pieces that can be worn at the highest level of play.”

The collection is expected to arrive in the coming weeks, British Vogue reports.
